Speech and Language Therapist

My name is Zaahidah Samsodien. I am 29 years old born on the 30th March 1995. I am a Muslim and a female. I am from South Africa and have recently moved to the UK with my husband. I studied to become a SLT (BSc) at the University of Cape Town and graduated in 2019. My strengths are being an active listener, having effective communication skills, being organised and working well in a team. I enjoy baking; cooking; building puzzles and scrapbooking. In my free time I watch movies & spend quality time with loved ones. I believe in being kind to others & helping those in need. I love meeting new people & learning new things.

I chose to become a SLT as it is very diverse in which I can work with both adults & children in many settings (in a hospital or clinic; in a school; at their home). I wanted a career in which I was able to help people & positively impact people by improving their lives and making a difference. I love that as a SLT I am able to find the best way for my client to communicate with their loved ones, finding the best and safest way for my client to eat or swallow & helping someone improve their social skills to build meaningful relationships and improve their quality of life!

My favourite word is “kindness” because it is the little acts of kindness that can make a big difference. Always choose to be kind.
