Makaton uses signs and symbols to help people communicate. It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech in the spoken word order.

Course Summary: Makaton Enhancement course

An accredited 3-day course run by a licensed Makaton trainer for professionals to extend their vocabulary, knowledge of theory and use of Makaton signs and symbols with special learners. Participants must have attended and passed the Makaton Foundation stage and be able to verify this certification.

Course Aims:

- To extend participants knowledge and breadth of Makaton vocabulary through revision of stages 1-4 and the addition of stages 5-8
- To gain a deeper understanding of how and why Makaton works and the ways it can be used in different settings to meet a range of needs.
- Practitioners who have passed the enhancement Makaton course are eligible to continue their studies to become a Makaton local or Regional tutor.

You can also complete your Foundation and Enhancement together in the same week (which then means you can train as a regional tutor) so this is a great use of time in the summer holidays!
